What should be noted when performing moxibustion?

1. Maintain warmth during and after moxibustion. Adjust room temperature appropriately and avoid drafts. Windows may be opened during treatment to circulate air.

2. Avoid cold water contact during moxibustion. Refrain from showering for 30 minutes before and after treatment. A warm bath is permissible 30 minutes post-treatment.

3. Gradually increase stimulation intensity: Start with low doses or shorter treatment durations, progressively increasing intensity over time.

4. Avoid strenuous activity immediately after treatment. Rest for 5-10 minutes.

5. Avoid emotional stress during treatment. Maintain a positive mindset afterward and prioritize restful recuperation without overexertion.

6. Avoid eating during moxibustion; wait at least 30 minutes after treatment before consuming food.

7. Maintain moderate hunger or fullness before and after treatment: Extreme hunger may cause moxibustion fainting; excessive fullness may lead to abdominal distension.

8. Moxibustion fainting: Often associated with first-time treatment, fasting, fatigue, anxiety, physical weakness, improper posture, or excessive stimulation. Monitor closely; if symptoms appear, stop treatment immediately and have the patient lie flat.

When should moxibustion not be performed?

Contraindicated Areas: Certain points on the head and face, or near vital organs and major blood vessels; the lower abdomen and lumbosacral region in pregnant women. Contraindicated Conditions: High fever, massive bleeding, stroke with closed syndrome, and headaches due to liver yang rising; certain infectious diseases, and during convulsions. Contraindicated Emotional States: Individuals experiencing extreme fullness/exhaustion/hunger, intoxication, severe thirst, profound fright, or intense anger.
